Chapter 23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skip\u2019s Torment<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Back in L.A., Skip was having trouble sleeping but wasn\u2019t answering his phone.  He heard Rocky\u2019s message and processed that along with his other thoughts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–   He should go to the authorities with what he knew;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–   He should talk about it with Ken first \u2013 why wasn\u2019t Ken going to the authorities?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–   He should get a hold of Susie in Boulder \u2013 see if her son Joey had said anything more about Furbush or his Vancouver connections;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–   Maybe Rocky was right, just keep moving on the Rump idea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

–   Damn it!  I miss those guys already, and the simple life of just playing tourist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                –   Well, have to at least stay for a possible World Series game;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–   Let me sleep on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Trump was not sleeping either.  He was tweeting the whole world:  \u201cIf the election hadn\u2019t been stolen, this never would have happened \u2013 never would have happened.  People are pissed \u2013 really pissed off I\u2019m not President.  The Democrats need to quit trying to lock me up \u2013 go after the real criminals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Meanwhile President Biden was trying to reassure a worried nation, especially baseball fans, saying he was flying out to attend the re-scheduled game in person, and that the LA Police, FBI & Homeland Security had evidence this was a one-off connected to foreign terrorists, saying \u201cWe\u2019re on to them, they won\u2019t have a chance to regroup.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Sunday night, Skip finally called Rocky and said he was fine . . . \u201cgoing to stick around to see if the Dodgers make it to the World Series . . . and Ken and I are talking about having a Rump session.  What\u2019s up with you guys?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Earlier in the day, when Ken woke up, Skip couldn\u2019t help himself, he just erupted, \u201cWhat the fuck is going on!?  I\u2019m going to the cops if you aren\u2019t.  I don\u2019t want to know anything more except you\u2019re going to the cops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cCalm down,\u201d Ken said.  \u201cListen to me.  The authorities are already in on this.  They don\u2019t need your name.  Stay out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cWhat do you mean the authorities are already in on this?  Since when did you start trusting the cops?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \u201cAgain, the less you know the better.  Gordy, up in Sacramento, the guy you stayed with, knows a guy who has infiltrated a terrorist group operating out of Canada.  It\u2019s part of a clandestine CIA operation that Biden might not even know about.   We\u2019re flippin\u2019 terrorists one at a time, convincing them the Islamic State has nothing to do with religion. I\u2019m telling you \u2013 just let it go.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

     With a troubled mind, Skip found Sally poolside at Rosie’s and acted like nothing much had happened.  But he did say he\u2019d gotten a call from Rocky and was thinking of joining back up with the Land Yacht if the Dodgers lost tonight.  \u201cDo you think you guys – you, Jack and Ken – can get a Rump session going without my help?\u201d he asked.  \u201cJust see how everybody is feeling about terrorism and the best ways to defeat it.  If you want to get a little bit edgy, talk about terrorism and hate crimes being two sides of the same coin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Sally replied, \u201cYou know I sorta feel like getting back on the bus too.  I\u2019m scared I\u2019m falling in love with Jack.  Maybe he and Jesse can figure out a way to do all this by remote, and we can change Ken\u2019s assignment to just raising money.  Jack has put a budget together and this is not going to be cheap.  Maybe ask Ken to hit up his Hollywood friends before we<\/em> go \u2013 I\u2019m coming with.\u201d   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
