{"id":2356,"date":"2023-10-26T01:15:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T01:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andydawkins.com\/?p=2356"},"modified":"2023-09-16T15:35:10","modified_gmt":"2023-09-16T15:35:10","slug":"chap-32-enlisting-susie-to-connect-the-maybe-dots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/andydawkins.com\/?p=2356","title":{"rendered":"Chap. 32 &#8211; Enlisting Susie to Connect the (maybe) Dots"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Chapter 32<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Enlisting Susie to Connect the (maybe) Dots<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Skip, Rocky and Jack were the first risers Saturday morning, hoping to get an early start on the 325-mile trek to Mamou, Louisiana. &nbsp;Around 9:30 a.m., the skies overcast, Rocky got the call from Huck. \u201cWe made it,\u201d Huck said, \u201cand you guys are missing something special.&nbsp; Just got here a half hour ago.&nbsp; When I opened the door to this place \u2013 it\u2019s called Fred\u2019s Lounge by the way \u2013 you can\u2019t miss it \u2013 downtown\u2019s one block long. &nbsp;Anyways, I go to open the door but bang in to this couple dancing \u2013 who couldn\u2019t care less \u2013 the music is too loud to apologize and they\u2019re half way across the dance floor before I finish easing in.&nbsp; Half the bar is dancing and the other half all smiles.&nbsp; Crazy!&nbsp; Like midnight at nine a.m. &nbsp;The bar\u2019s about ten-feet long and I\u2019m aiming for it when some hefty brunette with a pretty face says, \u2018Let\u2019s dance!\u2019 and I\u2019m prancing around the room like everybody else even before I can get a drink.&nbsp; You should be here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWell, we\u2019re not even on the road yet.&nbsp; Good luck with the brunette.&nbsp; I\u2019ll call when we\u2019re getting close,\u201d Rocky says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Skip was impatient to get going, \u201cSay Jack, how \u2018bout this for an idea: Why don\u2019t you and Sally ride in the Yacht and me and Rocky take your Rover? &nbsp;We\u2019ll all meet in Mamou, or wherever we catch up with Huck.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;\u201cPerfect!\u201d said Jack, tossing Skip the keys.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Driving in the rain south through Arkansas and then Louisiana on an empty U.S. 67, towards Mamou, Skip and Rocky tried again what they\u2019d tried doing the day before \u2013 getting a hold of Susie, back in Boulder, and, without telling her too much, get her re-invested in learning what was going on at the hunting lodge\/self-defense camp and pressing her to get more information out of her kid Joey in Vancouver.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This time they got through.&nbsp; It was Susie: \u201cHey you guys, how ya doin\u2019?&nbsp; Where you at? &nbsp;Still hangin\u2019 with that LSD freak in Norman?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Rocky was driving; Skip on speaker phone: \u201cSay Suze, not going to believe this, but we bumped into a guy who\u2019s also somehow connected to that supremacist group and Charlie Furbush, we think. &nbsp;Have you seen Furbush lately?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cNo, he comes in once in awhile, maybe twice since his acquittal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cHow \u2018bout Joey \u2013 any chance he\u2019s shared those names with you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWhat are you guys onto anyhow?&nbsp; Joey and I don\u2019t talk that much.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cWell, we\u2019re not sure what we\u2019re on to.&nbsp; But you remember how Joey warned you to drop the subject, saying it could be dangerous?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cYeah.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWell, me and Rocky are driving Pirate Jack\u2019s jeep to New Orleans.&nbsp; Everybody else is in the Land Yacht.&nbsp; We\u2019re not sharing our suspicions with anybody except you. &nbsp;We think the guy we ran into knows why Furbush, or somebody, shot that guy.&nbsp; Remember Joey telling you that Furbush gave him some names to look up in Vancouver?  Was \u2018Abdul\u2019 really the name of the murder victim?&nbsp; How did they connect Abdul up with Vancouver, you know?&nbsp; I remember reading in the paper that they had Abdul connected up with the hunting lodge, and they thought he was a Canadian, but how did they narrow it down to Vancouver?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>     &#8220;By the way, you\u2019re by yourself, right?&nbsp; Not sure we should even be talking on cell phones, what with everybody tapping everything after the bombing. &nbsp;If Joey is right this could be dangerous, we gotta keep all this between the three of us \u2013 you, me and Rocky, okay?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cYeah, sure, but what do you want me to do?\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cFor now, just keep your ear to the ground and see what more you can find out about the hunting lodge &#8211; it sounds like a posse comitatus or Proud Boys place &#8211; and next time you talk with Joey, tell him you\u2019ve heard more people in Boulder are in danger and he\u2019s <em>got<\/em> to give you the names of the guys Furbush knows in Vancouver.&nbsp; Maybe see what else Joey knows about that posse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cHoly shit.&nbsp; I had a feeling more was going on.&nbsp; Is Joey safe?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYeah, nothing has changed with regards to Joey.&nbsp; It\u2019s just that he knows Furbush and has been to the posse hang-out.&nbsp; We knew that already \u2013 nothing new there.&nbsp; And nothing we know has Joey any more involved. &nbsp;If you call back and get a hold of anybody besides me or Rocky, not a word about this, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cRight.
