A Bombshell !  We Learn About the Next Planned Bombing<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Back on the Land Yacht, finally out of the Carolinas and into Virginia, Max walked up to the front of the bus and sat on the console between Skip and Rocky.  \u201cThe pieces are starting to fall in place,\u201d he said quietly.  \u201cIt\u2019s starting to make sense.  Lisa just called.  I called her back, in private, back at that truck stop in Winston-Salem.  All I did was listen.  First, Dougherty is not the guy\u2019s real name; it\u2019s Rafferty, Jamie Rafferty.  Second, that guy you stayed with in Sacramento, Skip \u2013 the former SLA guy, Gordy Ettinger \u2013 well he had a girlfriend in the SLA, first name of Jane \u2013 that\u2019s all I know so far, no last name yet \u2013 who is now<\/em> Dougherty\u2019s<\/em> girlfriend<\/em>– make<\/em> that<\/em> Rafferty\u2019s<\/em> – and she\u2019s the insider who tipped Gordy off about the Dodger Stadium bombing! . . . which led to you getting tipped-off.  Wonder what she thinks about her guy hustling Susie back in Boulder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cWow!\u201d Rocky broke in, trying to be quiet.  \u201cWe got everything we need.  What\u2019s the plan for telling the FBI all this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cWell, here\u2019s the bombshell<\/em>,\u201d Max whispered, \u201cLisa\u2019s on board with not<\/em> going to the authorities just yet \u2013 wants to give her brother and Gordy a chance to help Jane get away from Rafferty\u2019s clutches.  Once you hear this, it\u2019ll make you both, me, my exes Lisa and Ken, all hundred percent complicit in whatever goes down . . .\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cMax,\u201d Skip said softly.  \u201cIt was me who first brought you into this.  I\u2019m sorry about that.  We\u2019re all in this a thousand percent.  We\u2019ll figure it out.  What else did you find out?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201c. . .  the<\/em> even<\/em> bigger<\/em> deal<\/em> you said might be in the works?\u201d . . .  Max continues in a way we can hardly hear him. \u201c. . . Well, Lisa says the plan is to bust these terrorists before<\/em> it goes down, but they\u2019re talking about bombing<\/em> Times<\/em> Square<\/em> on<\/em> New<\/em> Year\u2019s<\/em> Eve<\/em>!  And Lisa says we have to sit still, keep this to ourselves, and let Ken and Gordy head it off.  It\u2019s out of our hands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cNo!\u201d Rocky interjects.  \u201cWe\u2019re supposed to just twiddle our thumbs?!  We\u2019re on our way to New York City.  We could be there on New Year\u2019s Eve.  We\u2019re counting on an old SLA guy, and a Hollywood gigolo, to stop an impending terrorist attack?!  Rather than the FBI?!  Suppose it\u2019s all dis-information.  Today we hear it\u2019s gonna be Times Square on New Year\u2019s Eve, but who knows, by tomorrow they could have changed plans, and while we\u2019re doing nothing about it, they\u2019re deciding to bring down the Empire State Building on Christmas Day, or before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cWouldn\u2019t that be ironic, Skip?  You\u2019re in the elevator on your way to the observation deck at the top of the Empire State Building, and you get a call, like the call you got on your way to the Dodgers\u2019 game, but this time the caller says, \u2018Sorry sucker, the bomb\u2019s going off in 30 seconds.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cWhen we get to your sister\u2019s in Lexington,\u201d Rocky finished, \u201cwe stick to our plan to get the authorities in on the sex trafficking part of the puzzle, and that might stop their terrorist attack as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cGood luck with that, given the current sheriff in Boulder,\u201d Max pointed out.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Skip said it might be time to bring lawyer Steve current with everything going on.  \u201cWhat would a court of law say about us?  Are we partners in crime, or are we the good guys here?  Yeah, we got some information \u2013 that may or may not be enough to bring down a criminal enterprise . . .  Max, I say we go along with your ex and her brother . . . let Ken pull the trigger on going to the authorities.  I think our lawyer will tell us that not going to the authorities with what we already know is legit if we\u2019re doing it to stop a much larger harm from happening.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cGood luck with that,\u201d Rocky cackled, \u201cwhen that StarTribune reporter asks why you kept it to yourself \u2013 with hundreds dead or dying on the streets of New York.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
