{"id":2463,"date":"2023-11-17T01:44:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-17T01:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andydawkins.com\/?p=2463"},"modified":"2023-10-05T13:49:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-05T13:49:59","slug":"chap-48-we-all-learn-too-much-about-everything","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/andydawkins.com\/?p=2463","title":{"rendered":"Chap. 48 &#8211; We all Learn too Much about Everything"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Chapter 48<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>We all Learn Way Too Much about Everything<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;On Friday Huck called us at Phyllis&#8217; saying he\u2019d arrived in Westport and it was a huge compound his musician buddy had: swimming pool, <em>clay<\/em> tennis courts, a recording studio.&nbsp; \u201cThey even say Ringo Starr slept here once.&nbsp; And the main house is painted <em>Pink<\/em> \u2013 pink in honor of The Band &#8211; remember &#8216;Big Pink&#8217; the house they had?  You all are welcome anytime.&nbsp; When are you guys headin\u2019 up?\u201d he asked.&nbsp; \u201cAnd Rocky, good \u2018ol \u2018What is Fun\u2019 Rocky &#8211; you should get back in touch with Tex and Austin, they might want to come up for what\u2019s gonna be a really fun New Year&#8217;s Eve party!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cNot sure at this point,\u201d Max replied.&nbsp; &nbsp;\u201cMight be a day or two. &nbsp;Steve and Phyllis seem to be enjoying being back together.&nbsp; We\u2019ll keep you posted.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Sleuth Susie also called us at Phyllis\u2019 with breaking news: \u201cSay Rocky, you Doubting Thomas, my kid \u2013 I told ya he was a good kid \u2013 my kid Joey <em><u>does<\/u><\/em> have a name for you. &nbsp;The name is \u2018Shadya Warsame\u2019 and Joey has been in touch with him . . . Warsame admits being a partner with Abdul in a sex ring, but, after Abdul was shot dead, he backed out and hasn\u2019t been in the business for months.&nbsp; Joey says his guy Shadya has heard of Dougherty, but can\u2019t remember meeting him.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cDid you tell Joey about the baseball stadium bombing connection?\u201d&nbsp; Skip asked Susie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYeah, Joey\u2019s one-thousand percent up to speed. &nbsp;Wants to know who all Gordy and Ken know for connections in Vancouver \u2013 wants to get some leverage to use on Shadya that implicates him in the sex-trafficking, or maybe a tie-in with the jihadi scene.&nbsp; So far Shadya claims to know nothing about the terrorism aspect.  That makes sense &#8211; it&#8217;s the Syrians that are behind the jihadists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Without letting Susie overhear, Rocky whispered to us, \u201cDoes Susie know about the New York City deal?\u201d &nbsp;Skip shook his head \u201cno.\u201d&nbsp; \u201cKeep that from her,\u201d Rocky said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;When Steve and Phyllis went out for a late lunch, Max, Rocky and Skip decided it was time to get Steve involved, but just on the legal aspects &#8211; talking hypotheticals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Arriving back, Phyllis wise-cracked, \u201cWhat\u2019ll it be for dinner, boys, nothing I love more than a house full of men \u2013 too many ladies getting elected these days for me to work the legislature like I use to.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cEver been married?\u201d Rocky asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cNo, too much fun <em>not<\/em> being married,\u201d Phyllis replied. &nbsp;\u201cAny of you guys recommend it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cHmm,\u201d we all thought, but Steve savvily said, \u201cWhen you meet the right lady, keep it great as long as you can, and Phyllis, you\u2019ve always seemed \u2018right lady material\u2019 to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cThanks pal, I\u2019m over the hill . . . but you stick around, you might find out what <em>not<\/em> being married feels like.&nbsp; Are any of those others coming back?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Just before sitting down to Phyllis&#8217; home-made meatloaf supper, in the hallway Rocky whispered to Steve: \u201cKeep it going with Phyllis, man.  That was a great line you used on her.  She doesn\u2019t look more than 50.&nbsp; Curly blond hair, you\u2019ve always liked blonds.&nbsp; Nice shape, good sense of humor. too.&nbsp; But listen, there\u2019s something we\u2019ve got to talk about \u2013 <em>things<\/em> <em>are<\/em> <em>not<\/em> <em>good<\/em> <em>with<\/em> <em>Skip<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cI thought so,\u201d Steve replied. &nbsp;\u201cHe just hasn\u2019t seemed himself.&nbsp; What\u2019s up?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWell, it\u2019s a legal matter \u2013 client confidentiality stuff \u2013 so you\u2019ve got to excuse yourself from Phyllis for an hour or two.&nbsp; Later tonight we&#8217;ll meet at the pub down the corner.&nbsp; After supper, we&#8217;ll leave you two alone for a bit.&nbsp; Help with the dishes, see if she wants some kisses, and then get away and come meet us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; What the heck have these guys done now, <\/em>Steve wondered<em>, <\/em>but Rocky\u2019s right<em> \u2013 priorities.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Both the conversation at the corner bar and what transpired on Phyllis\u2019 couch <em>before<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>bar<\/em>, were the first topics that came up when the Land Yacht left Philadelphia the next day, traveling north on I-95 and the New Jersey Turnpike towards where Huck was staying in Westport, Connecticut.&nbsp; Patty and Sally were happy for Steve, saying they\u2019d heard enough, but not so happy hearing about what was discussed at the bar.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>      Max summarized it all saying, &#8220;Look, we&#8217;re trusting Lisa and Ken on this &#8211; I&#8217;ve known both of them for 40 years.  Ken has known this guy named Gordy for 40 years as well.  They&#8217;re friends and Ken says Gordy can be trusted.  Gordy was in the SLA back in the 70s and had a girlfriend named Jane, also in the SLA with him.  Jane moved on and is now in Vancouver as part of a terrorist group up there, but she wants to get out and has enlisted Gordy to help her.  Only thing is &#8211; she&#8217;s sticking around long enough to get the scoop on their next planned attack so we can head it off before it happens.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;\u201cThat\u2019s it,\u201d Sally exclaimed. &nbsp;\u201cSo WE can head it off!  Drop me at the Newark airport \u2013 I\u2019m flying back tonight.&nbsp; Max, I\u2019ll see you back in Minnesota \u2013 if you\u2019re not dead or in jail.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cLook,\u201d Max implored, \u201cWe&#8217;ve enlisted Steve to save us all from going to jail.
